Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima has arrived at the High court in Lilongwe where Judge Redson Kapindu is expected to deliver his ruling on whether the defence should be provided with further disclosures in a corruption case Chilima is answering.

In addition to the disclosures, the defence also wants to access a copy of the memorandum of March 2021 from the MDF to President Lazarus Chakwera seeking authorization to procure military vehicles from Malachite FZE, a company linked to business man Zuneth Sattar.

Initially, the MDF refused to submit the documents to the Anti Corruption Bureau citing national security concerns among others.

In its submission to the court during an earlier hearing, the defence, insisted on these disclosures, saying without them, their client would not be subjected to a fair trial.

Dr Chilima was arrested in November 2022 on suspicion that he received unspecified amount of money from a Sattar as a bribe to influence awarding of a business contract to Sattar’s companies. He denies the charges.
