Some concerned citizens have given President Lazarus Chakwera an ultimatum of 15 days to resolve passport and driving license challenges, threatening continued street protests otherwise.

Edward Kambanje, the leader of the demonstrations, expressed these demands after presenting a petition at the Blantyre district commissioner’s office.

The protesters are also demanding the stepping down of Minister of Homeland Security, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, and Department of Immigration Director General, Brigadier General Charles Kalumo (retired).

Recently, President Chakwera and the Department of Immigration assured Malawians of efforts being made to resume the printing of passports, but concerns persist.

In addition to passport and driving license issues, protesters voiced grievances about the high cost of living and economic challenges, describing Malawi as stagnant.
