A 59-year-old man of Choma’s Forest Compound who was due for an appointment with a Medical Doctor for his heart condition, has allegedly committed suicide.

The incident was reported to Police on April 4, 2024, by a Procurement Officer at Choma General Hospital, Evans Mukanda, who is also a neighbor to the deceased identified as David Kandonga Chiteta, an employee of the Forestry Department.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, notes that in the morning, the deceased asked his wife, Edith Chisola, to prepare food for him outside while he prepared for his doctor’s appointment.

Daka says when the wife later on went to check on her husband inside the house, she found him hanging with a rope around his neck tightened to the roof of the house.

The Commissioner states that Police Officers visited the scene and found the deceased hanging inside the house, with physical inspection revealing rope marks on the neck.

Daka says no foul play is suspected in the matter.
