Mchinji Police spokesperson Limbani Mpinganjira confirmed that the driver of the truck, Marshall Tawakira, 44, sustained minor injuries and was rushed to Mchinji District Hospital.

There were no passengers in the minibuses at the time of the accident.

An eye witness, Olita, a banana seller, recounted the terrifying moment when the truck, heading to Mchinji border from Lilongwe, crashed into four stationary minibuses before colliding with a tree at the T-junction of Mkanda road.

The Freightliner truck suffered significant damage to its front, particularly the bonnet and left headlamp, while the four minibuses had cracked windscreens and damaged bumpers and headlamps.

The incident occurred when the truck, registered as MC 8414, lost control and veered into the stationary minibuses.
