Police at Jenda in Mzimba have arrested Chief Inkosana Gabriel Mgomezulu of Bwanamdoko village and his 12 villagers on suspicion that they assaulted and wrongfully confined Wiseman Mhone 50, in demand of the release of their relative from Police cell at Emfeni in the district.
Spokesperson for Jenda Police Macfarlen Mseteka has confirmed that the arrests and said the suspects were arrested following reports that Inkosana and his people were holding Mhone hostage after heavily assaulting him in village.
According to Mseteka, the victim and the suspects have been in land wrangles since 2023, and when the issue was brought before Inkosi Mabulabo, he ruled in favor of the victim which did not please the suspects.
The victim after being given back the land, he cultivated it by growing beans.
The suspects later around January this year, went to the victim’s field and slashed down the crops (beans), which prompted the victim to report the matter at Emfeni Police unit.
Jenda Police warns community members, that it will not condone any acts of violence which promote mob justice.
