Local Energy Firm, Sky Energy Africa said, they will spend k 2.5 Billion in the next 16 months to import Electric cars and put up supporting infrastructure in the country.
This comes as the country faced acute shortage of fuel in recent months
In an interview with the founder of sky energy Africa and managing director Schizzo Thomson said the Electric vehicles are environment friendly and cost effective.
He said the first batch is arriving in the country next week.
“we have done research and we think this is the future and we are going to create market for the EV’s, our research says the environment is conducive and fertile for implementing this project’, Thomson said.
He further said that, there is a range choice as regards the vehicle types as they include mini sport utility vehicle, small four-Seater vehicles and saloons.
On cost effectiveness, he said the vehicles can use electricity at a cost of 40, 000 a month which is cheaper than most fuel-run vehicles
Basically, the electric vehicles that we are bringing have a battery bank capacity of 30 to 70 kilowatts per hour. On average and depending on how much you travel, you may need to charge it four times a month, which means you are spending about k 40 000 a month”, Thomson said.
