Police in Eastern Region have arrested Amos Kandoje, 37, suspected to be among the criminals that assaulted and robbed people of their property and money at Chinseu Trading Center in Zomba.
According to Eastern Region Police spokesperson, Patrick Mussa, during the night of April 3, 2024, a gang of criminals invaded the house of a businessman George Maduka where they assaulted him before robbing K19 million cash and other property.
Mussa added that the gang that was armed with panga knives went on rampage assaulting people from nearby houses before robbing them of cash, cellphones and other property.
Mussa said that Kandoje was apprehended at LunzuTownship in Blantyre.
According to Mussa, the police have also recovered a vehicle registration number NB 5813 Nissan Tiida, bags of maize and a phone suspected to be stolen during the crime.
“The police is calling upon the public to bring forth information that may lead to the arrests of the remaining suspects,” he appealed.
Amos Kandoje who hails from Kaphirimtama Village in Traditional Authority Chigalu in Blantyre has been charged with robbery and will appear in court soon.
