Lingadzi Police Station in Lilongwe has arrested a private security guard while another is on the run after both allegedly defiled a minor on different occasions.
Spokesperson for Lingadzi Police Station, Sergeant Cassim Manda, has confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Thomson Ben, 27, who committed the offence on 7 April 2024.
According to Manda, on Friday, 5 April 2024, the victim’s mother lodged a complaint at Area 12 Police Unit that she suspected a certain restaurant owner was sleeping with her child having caught the minor resting on his chest on several occasions.
Upon questioning her, the victim admitted to being in a love affair with the businessman as well as having had sex together on multiple times.
The victim further alleged that the matter was brought to the attention of Police after the mother had preferred the security guard to marry her daughter having asked for her hand in marriage (Chitomero).
The victim also alleged that she had since slept with Ben twice, though her choice was the divorced businessman.
Her assertions made Lingadzi Police Station to start hunting both suspects for the offense of having sex with a minor, which led to Ben’s arrest.
Meanwhile, Lingadzi Police Station has launched a manhunt for the second suspect who bolted after learning that the victim’s mother intended to take the matter to police.
The station has also launched an investigation to determine if the mother of the victim was in agreement with the marriage proposal of an underaged girl, and if the girl’s assertions are found to be true, drastic action will be taken.
Thomson Ben hails from Lende village in the area of Traditional Authority Chitukula in Lilongwe district.
