Mzimba first Magistrate court has convicted and sentenced 3 people to 4 and 2 years respectively for being found in possession of Indian hemp without licenses.

Spokesperson for Jenda Police Macfarlen Mseteka has identified the convicts as Pilirani Phiri 45, Lyford Wagiwaza 32, and Stanely Motogeni 33, who were arrested were arrested after being foind with indian hemp packed in buckets with tomatoes.

According to Mseteka Public Relations when the three appeared before court, they were pleaded guilty to the offence and asked for leniency but state through Patrick Lungu still prayed for a stiffer punishment on grounds that the convicts were well aware of what they were doing.

And in passing the sentence, Magistrate Redson Gamaliel has slapped Pilirani Phiri with a fine of K300,000 or serve 4 years in prison with hard labour while Lyford Wagiwa and Stanely Mologeni were each fined K200,000 or serve a 2-year jail term.

So far, only Pilirani Phiri has paid the fine while the other two have failed to pay their fines and they will serve a custodial sentence.
