Tobacco sales opened this morning as prices monitored at Chinkhoma Auction Floors in Kasungu have passed 3 dollar mark, exciting farmers that have already sold their tobacco.

The local company, Nyasa Tobacco, hit the highest price as at 9am, buying a bale at U$3.01 per kilogram of barley tobacco.

Osward Mbewa from T/A Njombwa in the district says he was satisfied with the opening prices at that he says are better than what he was offered last year.

“I brought eight bales of barley on the auction sales which have been sold at a minimum price of US$2.40 to Nyasa Tobacco and I am very satisfied,” he said in an interview soon after he had sold.
