President Lazarus Chakwera earlier today visited the construction site of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) staff houses currently under construction by Government through the Ministry of Lands at the Engineers Battalion, in Kasungu district.

Government started this project because Malawi Defence Force has small houses and staff members have to extend the houses so that they can have enough space for family members. So government had to build good and big houses for the Malawi Defence Force.

There are 11000 houses at Engineers Battalion in Kasungu, the houses are almost done 78 percent remaining for the staff to start living in the house. The staff will start living in the house after 8 weeks.

Chakwera’s visit to the construction site was to assess the construction progress of the structures, and he was told that the houses will be done after 8 weeks which means they will start living in the house in June and only 78 percent remaining for the houses to be done.

The only thing remaining is electricity and water for the houses to be complete.

Deus Gumba Minister of Lands was also there and he said at first people thought they are joking about building nice houses for the Malawi Defence Force but now they have fulfilled the promised. He also added that phase 2 of building houses have started in Mitundu in Liwongwe.
