Mzuzu City Council (MCC) has banned the selling of green maize in all markets in the city.
In a press statement that Face of Malawi has seen, the ban has been imposed to those who sell green maize whether fresh, cooked or roasted to stop starting from 16 April up until 30th June 2024.
“The ban, follows increasing reports of theft of the said community in the city and surrounding area”, reads the statement.
Meanwhile the council has urged all green maize vendors in the city to strictly observe the ban in an effort of protecting themselves from being arrested.
