President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has encouraged Malawians in the country, especially women and the youth, to seriously pursue agriculture through the mega farms initiative and irrigation farming as opposed to just relying on white collar jobs.
Chakwera said this earlier today at BICC in Lilongwe where he was official opening the Agricultural Investment Conference.
The president also advised some Malawians to stop spreading force news about Malawi to other countries, Saying that there is a lot of good things Malawi has done.
“Its high time Malawians should start talking good about their country so that they can attract other countries,” said Chakwera.
Chakwera emphasized the need to exploit opportunities in the agriculture sector to produce more crops for both domestic consumption and exports.
“Commercializing commodities is very important this will help farmers generate funds through increased agricultural productivity and commercialization, thereby improving the economy and food security in the country.” Said Chakwera.
He concluded by advising America for taking part on the issue of corruption that some of Malawians are answering in court.
He said America is one of the countries that a lot of people kill each other using guns and where a lot of people sell drug and American police kills a lot of Africans.
“America is one of the country that robbery happens often. Every year America has 10 million issues concerning robbery.
Sam Kawale, Minister of Agriculture said that investing in agriculture remains critical for achieving Malawi’s development agenda, Vision 2063.
Dr. Alfred Mwenifumbo, Controller of Agriculture Extension and Technical Services, presented recap on Investment Opportunities, identifying tobacco, maize, soya, and the fisheries industry as potential areas for improving productivity and commercialization.
DickxievKampeni, Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture said the objective of the conference was to attract local and foreign farmers to invest in agriculture, and introduce them to various modern farming technologies and agriculture practices to enhance efficiency, productivity, and sustainability in food production.
