Lufeyo, who once played for Mighty Tigers and Masters Security football clubs died this morning at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.

He is alleged to have succumbed to kidney failure.

Meanwhile, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Freetwood Hayiya has expressed shock over Lufeyo’s demise.

“Another shocking news of the demise of Kondwani Lufeyo, a former player for Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, Mighty Tigers and Masters Security football clubs.

“Versatile defender Lufeyo decorated our football in many ways playing in the top-flight division and our national youth teams,” wrote Hayiya.

He added: “Let me join all football lovers as we salute the efforts of Mr Lufeyo towards the development of football as a player both for clubs and country.

“We mourn together with the family on this very sad loss of a young man whose football career brought much excitement to the football fraternity. Our hearts are with the bereaved family during this moment of great sadness.”

Funeral details are still sketchy at the moment.
