A 30-year-old House Maid of Mazabuka’s Kapufi Compound has appeared in the Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing 45 000 South African Rands, clothes and household goods from her employer.

The maid identfied as Febby Mapani stands charged with Theft by Servant, contrary to Sections 272 and 287 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that on dates unknown but between 1st March, 2022 and 8th February 2024, Mapani, being employed to Susan Kaira as a maid, did steal the aforementioned amount.

Other items stolen include 16 pairs of shoes, 2 carpets, 27 body tops, 10 pairs of trousers, 7 dresses, 8 blankets, 3 sets of duvets, 3 bathing towels,10 chitenge materials, 12 winter coats, 3 door mats, 13 bags 11 wigs, 3 female pants and 2 basins.

Also among the stolen items are 5 mug cups, 2 pots, 4 breakable plates, 4 soap trays, 8 bottles of nail polish, 2 bottles of perfume, 1 hair spray, 1 toilet paper, 5 spoons, 2 hats, 11 curtains and 1 pillow case, altogether valued at K 77,820.

When the matter came up for plea before resident Magistrate Changa Chitabo, Mapani denied the charge.

Chitabo has adjourned the case to 24th April, 2024, for commencement of trial.
