The High Court has discharged former Reserve Bank Governor Dalitso Kabambe and his deputy then, Henry Mathanga from one account of abuse of office.
This is a case in which the two are accused of misreporting government figures to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) between 2018 and 2020.
The court has discharged the former Central Bank officials from abuse of office contrary to section 95(1) of the Penal Code but maintained the second charge which is fraud using false pretence under section 319A of the Penal Code.
High Court Judge Redson Kapindu discharged the two following their pretrial application.
They argued the state had not disclosed any evidence to prove wrongdoing in all the charges.
