Police in Mulanje district have arrested a 42 year old a Mozambican national for alleged involvement in a series of robberies.

Mulanje Police Station spokesperson, Innocent Moses has identified the suspect as Richard Herema.

Moses said the incident took place at Thorwood Trading Centre.

He said they received a report that a gang of about 40 armed men with pangas knives, clubs and sticks, split into two groups and raided two houses located approximately 200 meters apart.

Moses said the gang they stole about MK3 Million along with several phones after injuring two other people in the process.

Moses said acting on intelligence provided by “Ndakuona Detectives” from the South East Region, Herema who hails from Mbizi village in the area of Traditional Authority Nazombe in Milanje district, Mozambique was apprehended.

Moses said Herema operates a bicycle repair shop at Thorwood Trading Centre is allegedly directly connected to both robberies.

According to Moses, investigations are ongoing to apprehend the other culprits who are currently at large.
