Councillor for Blantyre City Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has declared interest to contest for post of National Deputy Publicity Secretary post in the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Chimbanga’s declaration comes as the party is preparing for its elective conference in July this year ahead of the 2025 polls.
writing on his official facebook page, Chimbanga said he believes in “business unusual” hence the interest.
“I am committed to defending our party the DPP and supporting its leadership more importantly His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika. I am dedicated to articulating the party’s position on various matters and working hard to rebuild and reposition the DPP brand. As a team player, I am open to new ideas that will propel the DPP forward. My goal is to establish a narrative that people can trust and take pride in, with dexterity and integrity as our guiding principles.
“I am vying for the position of National deputy publicity secretary of the DPP because I believe in “business unusual” and I am determined to make it a reality. I urge delegates who will be going to the convention to vote for me, as I will strive to bring a fresh perspective and contribute to the growth and success of the DPP,” wrote Chimbanga.
He added: “I continue to believe that Malawi’s better days are ahead of her.”
The budget for DPP’s elective conference has been pegged at MK700 million, according to former President Peter Mutharika who is also leader of the party.
