Bishop of Dedza diocese Peter Adrian Chifukwa has asked government and non-governmental organizations (NGO) to introduce more programmes that empower men economically to assist in addressing suicide cases caused by financial challenges.
“Catholic Church is deeply concerned with increased suicide cases hence the need for government and NGOs to enhance awareness among the citizenry about the malpractice.” Said Chifukwa.
He also asked fellow religions leaders to help people who are suffering from mental illness through different programmes.
“In Dedza ten people have committed suicide from January to April this year compared to cases registered same period last year.” Said Dedza police officer in charge Mwiza Nyoni.
