Illovo Malawi Plc says will normalize the supply of sugar within the next two weeks after they have resumed the production of sugar last week.
Speaking in an interview, Managing Director Lekani Katandula said the dispatches of sugar for the local markets has started last week following the announcement they made that sugar production has resumed in all factories, Nchalo and Dwangwa.
“Am expecting that Malawi will be supplied with more sugar in all markets and we would like to see those excessive prices coming down to our recommended prices and of course, the production is a bit slowly but we hoping that within the next two weeks everything will be intact,” he said.
He further pointed out that, the company will also make sure that the international markets will be supplied with more sugar for foreign exchange and their financial obligations.
The prices of sugar were high in some parts of the countries due to shortage of sugar in the country as people were buying and selling K3500 per one kilogram.
Recently the company adjusted up the prices of sugar from K1950 to K 2300.
