Police in Mzuzu have arrested a 28 year-old man for allegedly being found in possession of fake South African Currency Rand (ZAR).
Mzuzu Police publicist Rose Chipyola has confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Blessings Nyirenda.
According to Chipyola, the suspect has been arrested after police being tipped that Nyirenda is keeping counterfeit of Rands.
Police arrested Nyirenda at his home in Chikoma in the district and recovered counterfeit of rand currency amounting to 400ZAR which is equivalent to 37,074 Malawi Kwacha.
However, the Reserve Bank of Malawi have verified that the money is indeed fake and Nyirenda is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges leveled against him.
