Trouble is brewing in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) as some regional chairman have openly attacked the party’s Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka of attempting to bring division in the party ahead of the elective conference in August this year.

On April 16 2024, Mkaka through a memo ordered that filling of vacancies at regional level ahead of the convention should be sanctioned by his office.

“Delegates to the forthcoming convention are only those in your records as of the date of my memo dated April 8 2024.

“Should there be vacancies in the regional committees, my office will sanction filling of the same in accordance with the constitution,” wrote Mkaka.

But in a joint letter signed by four regional chairmen namely; Zebron Chilondola, Joseph Chavula, Augustine Chidzanja and Peter Simbi, the four have protested the decision.

The regional chairmen have since called for an emergency meeting ahead of the elective conference to iron-out the miss-understanding.
