The Malawi Network of Elderly Persons Organisations (MANEPO) has distributed assorted drugs and medical supplies to home based care givers at Domasi Rural, Naisi and Mkwapala Health Centre in Zomba to help the elderly who walk long distances to health facilities to seek medical support.
In her remarks during the donations MANEPO Comprehensive and Inclusive Health Structures for Old People Project Manager, Maria Masiye has since suggested use of elderly home based care givers who can be providing primary health care to the elderly at their door step.
“We are here to distribute assorted drugs and other medical supplies to elderly people who cannot afford to walk long distance to seek medical support from health facilities since many of the facilities are far from them, and we are planning to find home based care givers who will assist us to reach the elderlies and give them full support any time they need it at their door step” she said.
Masiye further said that they will make sure that the Elderly are being assisted with medical supplies and that is the way to filling the gap on the absence of geriatrics in the country.
MANEPO is a consortium of sixty civil society organisation whose aim is to help older people claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty so that they can lead dignified, secure, active and healthy lives in Malawi
