The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has condemned the violence attack that happened in Mponela on Saturday where Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) supporters were attacked by suspected Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters.
AFORD supporters met their fate as they were preparing for a Sunday’s rally which was graced by its President Enoch Chihana and former Minister of Unity Timothy Pagonachi Mtambo.
It is said that MCP thugs hacked AFORD supporters with an aim of scaring them away.
In a statement released yesterday DPP Spokesperson Shadrick Namalomba expressed sadness on the matter and appealed to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to strongly condemn the tendency.
According Namalomba, political violence has no place in a democratic country like Malawi.
Meanwhile,AFORD President Enoch Chihana has given the law enforcers 7 days to arrest perpetrators of the Mponela violence.
