In Machinga education authorities have called for increased support towards education improvement initiatives to enhance teaching and learning standards in the district.
District Director of Education, Youth and Sports, Nelly Kamtedza said, if embraced and funded, such competitions would improve the overall performance of both teachers and learners in schools.
Kamtedza was speaking this during Maphunziro Mbambande Quiz competition organized by World Vision Malawi together with Health wise organization.
Kamtedza added that the quiz competition enable leaners to work hard in order to be competitive and obtain desired learning outcomes.
Program manager at World Vision in Machinga, Chrissy Mbewe Sitima said the project seeks to improve the performance of leaners in the early and upper grades of the schools of the district.
In the quiz competition, three schools of Matanda, Ntapwa and Puteya primaries made it to the district finals. Matanda primary school emerged the winner with 100 points beating Ntapwa and Puteya primaries who scored 81 and 69 points respectively.
