Leadership with Compassion Party (LCP) president Dr. Sally Kumwenda has strongly condemned the ongoing political violence purportedly being perpetrated by the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters ahead of the 2025 General Election.

On Saturday, Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) supporters were beaten severely in Mponela as they were preparing for their rally on Sunday which was graced by its President Enoch Chihana.

The thugs hacked AFORD supporters especially women and Children with an aim of scaring them away ahead of the rally.

The incident in Mponela comes barely months after another incident in Lilongwe where MCP supporters hacked Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters who were scheduled to conduct a blue parade.

Speaking in an interview with faceofmalawi Dr. Kumwenda said violence has no place in a democratic country like Malawi where everyone is free to associate with any political party.

She described the violence conduct by MCP supporters as the act of Satan and she appealed to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to act on the matter with immediate effect.

“Let us fear God who created and owns this world including Malawi. Malawi doesn’t belong to anyone hence no one has the right to infringe on other people’s rights. We need to love one another and apply the golden rule of Do unto others as you would love them to do unto you.

“If the president is serious to end this violence he definitely can. Let him do the right thing as a leader because whether we like it or not we can never be on that position for ever. If it’s a matter of doing it to protect ourselves from what may follow after we leave this seat, how about when we die. Will this same kind of violence protect us from being thrown to hell?” queried Dr. Kumwenda.

Meanwhile, National Publicity Secretary for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Ezekiel Ching’oma has distanced the party from the said violence act.
