Jimu Jabu, a 33-year-old inmate, has reportedly escaped from Zomba Central Prison this morning.
Officer-in-Charge Harrings Nyalubwe said the escape occurred while some inmates were working in a nearby pigeon peas garden.
Gunshots were heard around 8:30am today. Nyalubwe added that a search has since been instituted for the escapee.
Jabu was serving a six-year jail term and had only two months left to complete his sentence.
