Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) through the hunger appeal project has distributed K50,000 to each of the 1500 food-insecure households in the area of Traditional Authority Mabilabo in Mzimba District.
According to MRCS spokesperson, Felix Washon, said the project will assist over 7500 people who are food insecure due to El Nino that affected the crop yields in Mzimba with the support from the international Federation of Red Cross and Saud Arabia Red Crescent.
“We are implementing a three-month K396 million Hunger Appeal Project that will assist many people in Mzimba district 1500 households received K 50,000 each” he said.
Meanwhile, Maria Kumwenda, one of the beneficiaries, says the support will enable her to pay school fees and purchase learning materials for her grandchildren.
About 500 households will also receive sweet potato vines and vegetable seeds.
