Rumphi District Hospital is struggling to settle debt of over K100 million which has been accumulating for the past five years.

This was confirmed when Matunkha Development Trust donating medical supplies worth K6million.

Director of health and social services Dr Arnold Jumbe said the money belongs to Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM), Northern Region Water board and food suppliers.

“The hospital is owing ESCOM about 30 million, Northern Region Water board K20 million and food suppliers about K50 million” said Dr Jumbe.

Dr Jumbe also commented on the donation by Matunkha Development Trust he described it timely saying the Hospital has run out of some medical supplies.

Matunkha Development Trust Programme manager Goodson Chavula said their donation follows a complaint from health authorities there that some medical suppliers are not available at the facility.
