Armed carjackers opened fire on a Mississippi family in their own driveway Friday and tried to take off in the victims’ vehicle with young kids still inside, a shocking video shows.
The doorbell camera footage shows two men walking up to the family’s Jackson home with at least one gun pointed at a woman, Heather Allen, and her adult son standing next to a black car parked in the driveway.
A gunshot can be heard as the pair duck and hide behind the car while the men get closer, brandishing the firearm, the clip shows.
One of the men then opens the driver’s door and yanks Allen’s daughter out of the vehicle and gets behind the wheel, according to the video.
The suspect pointed a gun in the face of Allen’s other son, who was in the car, Allen told the news station.
“He jumps in the driver’s seat, I’m standing on the outside looking in, and he points a gun at my oldest boy’s face,” she said.
Her son managed to run out.
But her two young grandkids, her daughter’s children, were still inside.
“My daughter was like, ‘My babies, my babies are in the car,’” Allen said in the emotional interview.
Allen decided to risk it and grab them out of the car while the two suspects repeatedly yelled for the keys.
To get the armed men to leave, the grandmother chucked her own keys at them and they took off in her car that was parked on the front lawn, the video shows
Her vehicle was recovered largely undamaged just two blocks away about 40 minutes after the carjacking, Jackson police told the station.
The car is in police possession as they process it for evidence
Allen said the armed carjacking was traumatizing for the whole family.
“I’m not sleeping. My oldest son, his anxiety is through the roof — he’s even scared. My daughter, she has shock, but they’re safe,” she told WAPT.
Allen has only lived in the area for about three months but already wants to leave Jackson after the terrifying incident.
