President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has strongly spoken against mob justice , stressing the need for human rights fighters to actively advocate against it.

Chakwera said this during a rally held after the launch of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact 2 in Lilongwe.

He called on all people in the country, including the police, traditional leaders and other stakeholders to ensure the elderly are respected and not victimized just because they are old.

“Elders in the country are being assaulted to death for just being suspected of practicing witchcraft. No one is speaking against these acts including the so called human right defenders. Kodi muzingozuzula za ndale zokha?. We cannot have a country run by mob rule, mob justice. That must stop,” said the visibly angry Chakwera.

Chakwera said growing old is not a sign that someone is witch or wizards.

He went on to appeal to Malawians to stop taking the law into their own hands.
