A court in Lilongwe has extended the prison term of a certain man who appealed his case of raping a four-year-old child.
The man, who lives in Chilinde in Lilongwe, was found guilty in 2022 of the crime and was sentenced to 19 years in prison.
Dissatisfied with the decision, he appealed to the Supreme Court to review and reduce the sentence.
But the judges Justice Annabel Mtalimanja said that the lesser punishment in this case is to spend twenty (20) years in prison, but since these cases are increasing in the country, Mr. Mtalimanja ordered the man to spend forty (40) years in prison.
They have confirmed that they have done this in order to reduce the abuse of minors in this country.
