A 27-year-old woman, Khanyisile Vanessa Mndayi, is in a coma and fighting for her life after being stabbed more than 20 times by her boyfriend, Luuk De Jong, in front of their children in South Africa.
The horrific incident occurred on Sunday, May 26, 2024, in their home in Berea, Johannesburg, leaving the local community in shock and raising concerns about domestic violence.
The brutal assault took place within their home, with the couple’s children witnessing the violence, adding to the trauma.
De Jong did not stop at stabbing Khanyisile; he locked her and the children inside the house, trapping and terrifying them.
After committing the assault, De Jong took his belongings and left the premises, abandoning the severely injured Khanyisile and their traumatized children.
Neighbors, upon hearing the commotion and realizing the gravity of the situation, promptly alerted the police, whose quick response was crucial in addressing the dire circumstances.
When De Jong returned to the house, allegedly to continue the assault, the police had already arrived and were able to intervene and arrest him, potentially preventing further harm.
Khanyisile’s condition remains critical as she battles for her life in a coma, with the incident devastating her family and sparking a broader conversation about domestic violence.
The community has rallied around Khanyisile and her children, calling for increased support and resources for victims of domestic abuse to prevent such tragedies in the future.
