Minister of transport and public works, Jacob Hara has commended the people of the United States of America for providing financial resources for the new compact.
Speaking during Millennium Challenge Compact in Lilongwe after US government funded the compact with 350 million US dollars which have said should help to reduce transportation costs, connect farms to markets and strengthen land administration in the country Hara said he believes the compact will address road maintenance challenges which is the main challenge that affects the country’s road sector
He added that, he has since congratulated President Lazarus Chakwera and his vice, Saulos Chilima for scoring highly on governance; one of the qualifications of the compact.
However, the minister says it is the government’s desire to replicate the project in various district councils across the country.
