People from all walks of life around Machinjiri on Friday flocked to South Lunzu Primary School ground to witness the glamorous launch of Alex Chimwala Mk1 million Primary Schools Trophy which will involve 8 primary schools.

The launch was spiced up by various activities including Dancing, eating competition and a comedy by Thembwelembwe and Sendembweli.

As this was not enough, people who gathered at the ground watched a football and netball games involving South Lunzu Primary School and Namilango Primary School [Football] and Nthawira Primary School and Nkolokoti Primary School [Netball].

Speaking after the launch Chimwala, a well-known business man and concerned citizen from Machinjiri asked the teams taking part in the tournament to desist from hooliganism.

“I ask all the teams including officiating personnel to observe fair play. I don’t want to hear any news of hooliganism,” said Chimwala.

Turning to the trophy, Chimwala said that he want the trophy to be used as preparations for the upcoming Mayors Trophy for all Machinjiri teams.

On his part, Chrispin Matemba, Malawi Schools Sports Association (MASA) Zone Chairperson for South Lunzu Zone hailed Chimwala for coming up with the tournament.

“We are very thankful to Honorable Alex Chimwala for coming up with this tournament. There were times when a full term could pass without any competitive games for these learners but with this it will help us a lot. The trophy will help learners to be busy with this competition and it will help many learners to remain in school,” said Matemba.

He also urged all schools taking part in the tournament to use it as a tool of making friendship and not a battle field.

A total of eight primary schools namely; South Lunzu, Namilango, SOS, Nthawira, Makalanga, Nanjiriri, Nkokoti and Mpata will take part in the trophy.

The trophy will be played for a period of two months.
