A-65-years old man has died after drown at Nkhanthwe stream which is located in Mponela Dowa District.
The deceased has been identified as Denis Julio who hailed from Missi village in the area of Senior Chief Dzoole.
It is reported that the man, mate his fate on 31 May 2024 at around 07:00 hours.
It is said that Julio was a well-known drunkard person and used to drink local beer within the village.
On 30 May 2024 around 19:00 hours he went for beer drinking as usual at Khwema Trading Centre.
At around 20:00 hours,he left the trading centre alone wanted to continue drinking beer on the other side at Mbalame village.
Between Khwema and Mbalame village there is a stream which demacates the two villages and access to the other village there is a bridge made of wood .It is believed that Julio attempted to cross it whilst drunk and he slipped and fell into the waters of Nkhathwe stream and drowned.
On 31 May,2024 at around 07:00 hours learners from Mauni Primary School saw Julio floating whilst passing going to school for lesson classes and reported the matter to village headman khwema where it was known that the deceased was from Missi village.
The matter was reported to Mponela Police and scene of crime was visited by detectives from Mponela Police in accompany by medical officer from Mponela Rural Hospital who viewing the body and confirmed death. Death was due to suffocation secondary to drowning.
Meanwhile, Mponela Police Station is still advising all drunkards in his policing area to avoid crossing rivers while drunk.
