The Norwegian Nurses Organization (Non) has endorsed the forthcoming industrial action by health workers under the National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives and Physician Assistants Union of Malawi (Paum); demanding release of their allowances and salaries dating back to 2023.

The health workers’ strike is expected to start on June 10 following the collapse of their talks with government on several occasions.

In a statement, Non president Lill Sverresdatter Larsen says they support the health workers’ decision to hold demonstrations.

Larsen adds that nurses and midwives are overworked and undervalued across the country and the industrial action is acceptable in a push for better living conditions of the workers.
