Some prison officers in the country have questioned the move by their department to call for promotional interviews when their counterparts the police were recently promoted without interviews.

The wireless communication seen by this publication shows that the interviews are slated for this week June 7, 2024 in all the regions.

One of the officers who opted for anonymity wondered why the Gaolers and Sergeants are subjected to the interviews when over 800 police officers were recently given the next ranks despite that they are all under one Homeland Security Ministry.

They claim that the interviews are for formality, adding that it is painful for the newly recruited officers to compete the grades with those who have served for about 20 years.

Effort to talk to Malawi Prison Service spokesperson Chimwemwe Shaba proved futile.
