Chairperson for Karonga Main Market, Godwin Ghambi, has put worries over district council authorities for their carelessness on uncollected garbage that is increasing at the market premises causes a danger to residents’ health.

According to Ghambi traders and customers are being forced to bear the smells that are spreading out fromthe pile.

“The smell has become unbearable… A large amount of waste remains unattended to, attracting flies which land on fresh vegetables, fish and meat which may lead to the spread of diseases like Cholera,” said Ghambi.

Meanwhile, District Environmental Officer for Karonga Council, Khumbo Mbeye, said they are facing transportation challenges to run the errand at the market.
