Crime cases in Thyolo District have declined to 385 from January to May this year compared to 405 during the same period last year.
Thyolo Police Officer-In-Charge, who is also Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Francis Chisoti disclosed this during a Station Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday.
Specifically, Chisoti said crime rate has gone down by 5 percent while road accidents by 33 percent.
Among others, he attributed the reduction to deployment of additional staff within the district’s police posts and increased police visibility.
In his remarks, District Commissioner Hudson Kuphanga commended the police and other stakeholders for their efforts in crime prevention; describing it as critical in the promotion of development efforts.
He then called for continued collaboration to enhance community policing to strengthen security and foster cordial relationship between the police and the community.
