As the voter registration is remaining with three months to begin, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has finalized shipping in all the 6 500 Election Management Devices (EMDs).

A total of 720 devices arrived today from China via Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe topping up on the 5 780 which came in the past two weeks.

Speaking during the Presiding over the arrival ceremony attended by all political parties and the media, Chapweteka outlined that the electoral body will conduct a demonstration of how the devices work.

“This will be done before we start registration in September. We want to be as transparent as possible to avoid court cases,” he said.

EMDs are portable devices used to conduct voter registration, transfer of voters, inspection of the voters’ register, nomination of candidates and management of results.
