Malawi Property Investment Company (Mpico) plc has increased sponsorship for the Gateway Mall Netball challenge to K40 million from K24 million in the previous year.

The development has revealed during a press briefing by Mpico operations Manager Elliot Jambo at Gateway Lilongwe.

Jambo said the competition has been run smoothly which made the company to be satisfied and the overall objective is to compliment government in developing netball in the country.

“We want to add more competition through this increment. We are happy with the impact of the competition. It has contributed players to the Malawi National Netball team. We are also satisfied with how the competition has been run” he said.

Meanwhile, Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has since appreciated Mpico for the increased sponsorship saying it will help develop netball.

“We have over six players in the Under 21 national netball team from the Central Region. That’s the impact of the sponsorship,” said NAM treasurer Cecelia Mtukule Bondwe.

Central Region Netball League vice chairperson Fernando Ligola has since promised Mpico that his committee will be transparent and ensure the league is run professionally.

“This is great news as the sponsorship has doubled. We will create two competitions running concurrently. There will be a senior and a junior league. We are really grateful for this sponsorship,” he said.
