Lilongwe Police Station has impounded 55 motorcycles for contravening road traffic rules and regulations.
The development has come following the increase of road accidents involving motorcycle despite the effort to provide civic education on how to conduct themselves on the road.
Speaking in an interview with Deputy Publicist for Lilongwe Police Station, Khumbo Sanyiwa, says the station decided to enforce the rules by impounding motorcycles for non-compliance after noting that most motorcyclists were still going against the required road safety standards.
However, on average Lilongwe police station has registered almost 50 road accidents involving motorcycles per month.
