People’s Development Party (PDP) President Kondwani Nankhumwa has said if voted into power in the forthcoming tripartite elections, his party is going to strengthen the agricultural sector as a way of ending perpetual hunger in the country.

Speaking during the party’s inaugural rally at Masintha Ground in Lilongwe, he said PDP will also strengthen agriculture extension services in the country thereby creating more jobs for the youth.

Still on the youth, he stressed that government needs to allow people to retire when they reach retirement age in order to pave way for fresh blood and by extension, fresh ideas.

In his words, Nankhumwa said that there is no point in telling graduates to go and start businesses when they clearly have no financing.

“This is why I am saying that the old guns need to retire and pave way for the youth while the retired are going out and starting the so called businesses.”

Turning to the elective conference, Nankhumwa said the party will hold its elective conference in September this year.

He said anyone in the party is free to contest at any position including that of the President.
