Four inmates and one who has recently finished serving her sentence have been selected to study tertiary education in various public tertiary institutions in the country.

Speaking in an interview with Malawi Prison Service spokesperson, Chimwemwe Shaba said for the first time in the history of the service a female inmate has been selected to study at Mzuzu University.

Shaba outlined that The five are Ivyone Kalimona from Mzuzu Prison who has been selected to study Bachelor of Science in Water Resources Engineering and Management at Mzuzu University, Paul Tembo from Lilongwe Prison to University of Malawi to study Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, Godrick Nkhoma from Mzimba Prison who will study Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Religious studies at Mzuzu University.

He further said the last two are Austin Chisuse and George Chipwanthe both from Blantyre Prison who have been selected to Domasi College of Education to study Bachelor of Education focusing on English linguistic, history and social studies respectively.

Kalimona, the female inmate finished serving her sentence recently
