The UTM Party has issued a call for peace and calm to all Malawians during the mourning period of the late Vice President, Saulos Chilima, who also served as the party’s president.
At a press conference held at the party’s headquarters on Thursday, UTM members of parliament and councillors appealed for restraint and respect in honour of the late Vice President.
Honourable Steve Mikaya emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and remembering Chilima as a visionary leader who worked tirelessly for the betterment of Malawi.
The party has also urged its supporters and the public to respect the government’s decision to hold a public viewing of the late Vice President’s body at the Civil Stadium.
“I would like to urge Malawians and party followers to respect the government’s decision that we should have a public viewing ceremony of the late vice President at Civil Stadium and not in all three regions as we earlier requested,” said Mikaya.
Vice President Chilima tragically passed away in a plane crash along with eight others while enroute to Mzuzu.
