Former president Peter Mutharika has announced that he will attend the burial ceremony of Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima in Ntcheu district.

Mutharika, who leads the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), worked with Chilima from 2014 to 2019.

DPP’s administrative secretary, Chimwemwe Chipungu, stated that Mutharika is deeply concerned with the passing of Chilima, whom he regarded as his son.

Mutharika has conveyed condolences to Chilima’s family. Despite initial security concerns, Mutharika remains committed to paying his respects and standing in solidarity with the bereaved family.

Chipungu said in a statement, “Senior members of the party [DPP] including myself, have been present since the day of the accident. We are in solidarity mourning with madame Mary Chilima, UTM, and the other families who lost their beloved ones in this tragedy.”
