Veteran musician Lucius Banda has mourned Vice President Saulos Chilima, who died in a plane crash last Monday in Chikangawa.
Banda, who is still in the hospital, said he is mourning Chilima, who was like a brother to him. Banda stated that only God has answers to every question Malawians have about Chilima’s death.
“With profound sorrow, I mourn the loss of my brother, His Excellency Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima. Since the news of his passing, my heart has been heavy with grief. Yet, I find solace in the belief that God holds the answers to our questions,” Wrote Lucius on Facebook.
Banda said he stands in solidarity with all Malawians, the Chilima family, and UTM supporters in mourning the trusted leader.
“To me, SKC was more than a leader; he was a brother, a fellow warrior, a fellow Catholic, and a kindred spirit. As I write this from my hospital bed, I stand in solidarity with all Malawians, the Chilima family, and the UTM community, mourning the loss of a father figure, a trusted leader, and a friend to many.”
Lucius has since urged the nation to honor the legacy of Chilima with love and peace.
“As we bid farewell to our departed Veep, let us honor his legacy with love, peace, and tranquility – values he held dear. May his belief in and struggle for this nation inspire us to continue his work. Rest in peace, dear brother.”
Chilima will be laid to rest today at Msipe in Ntcheu. Currently, his funeral ceremony is underway at Nsipe ground.
