The government has decided to take an appeal against decision of the High Court in Mzuzu that Tadikira Mafubza, and seven others are not guilty.
Tadikira who is the son of former First lady Gertrude Mutharika, was accused of trafficking in persons and manslaughter charges after finding a mass grave of 30 Ethiopian nationals in Mtangatanga forest in Mzimba in 2022.
High Court judge Gladys Gondwe, yesterday on 19 June 2024 acquitted the 8 after noticing some inconsistencies from witnesses against the defendants.
However, Director of Criminal Litigation in the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Dzikondiwanthu Malunda, has said the State is not satisfied with the ruling.
He has confirmed that, following consultations, the state has made the appeal to Supreme Court against the ruling.
Mafubza was charged together with Samuel Navaya, Duncan Kalulu, David Luhanga, Thomas Dickson Kazembe, Boniface Ngulube, Aubrey Dukes and Arnold Mwakiyelu.
