Dr Michael Usi has now been sworn in as the Vice-President of the Republic of Malawi.

The event is currently underway at Parliament in Lilongwe, attended by different people including the President of Malawi Dr Lazarus Chakwera, while others are watching on screens outside the parliament building.

In his maiden speech, Dr Usi said he is comforted for being the second citizen and at the same time sad due to the realisation that former VP Dr Saulos Chilima is no longer alive.

The Vice President has since praised the late Chilima for trusting them to be the deputy leader of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) party.

He added that the shoes of his predecessor, Saulos Chilima, are too big to fill. However, he has assured Malawians that he will work hard to ensure that he delivers during his tenure.
On UTM party, Usi has promised Chilima’s legacy alive and lead the party to success.
